Split This Rock 2014 was great!

Split this Rock's biennial 4-day poetry festival ended today and the air in Washington, DC is electric with the passion of engagement -- minds and bodies energized by fine poems that demand opportunity and justice for all.  I was glad to be there, participating in workshops and readings led by today's finest poetic voices

Poets featured in the festival also have been featured in the March 2014 issue of POETRY Magazine. There is not much mathematics in these poems but, in a tribute to Adrienne Rich, poet Anne Waldman includes these closing lines:

                move in parallelograms

getting it right as she did

and, in a tribute to dissident Chinese artist Ai Weiwei, poet Wang Ping includes these phrases:

       . . . Ai Weiwei . . . 11 weeks have passed . . . 81 days and nights .
       . . 1,944 hours . . . that's 6,998,400 heartbeats from each of us . .
. whose heartstrings are tied to yours . . .

I urge you to go to the Split this Rock website and get connected.  Several lively and informative Split This Rock postings by DC poet Karren Alenier may be found here:
