Reasons and Proofs -- in a Poem

This week I have been enjoying family vacation time  but this evening I have a moment to share a mathy poem that I found recently on Facebook -- "THE WORLD I LIVE IN" -- lines by one of my favorite poets, Mary Oliver (1935-2019),   Lots of information about her is available at this link and ten of her very fine poems are available here.

What can be proven . . .

Two weeks ago poet Mary Oliver (1935-2019) died and her passing has caused me to turn again to her work. In "I Looked Up" -- from her 1994 collection, White Pine -- I have found and am reflecting on this line.

What wretchedness, to believe only in what can be proven.
